Our Story
The story of EMW Football and Cheerleading began 57 years ago in the town of East Aurora. The year was 1966 and five men from the towns of Elma, Marilla, and Wales helped the new organization break away from the more established East Aurora Little Loop Football program. EMW Football and Cheerleading started with only two football teams and our organization now boasts four football and four cheerleading teams. EMW Football and Cheerleading has been a member of a few leagues, the old Southtown Football league, OATKA Football league, and now we have returned home to the Empire West Youth Football and Cheerleading league consisting of Lancaster, East Aurora, Orchard Park, Holland, Eden, Alden, Cheektowaga Airlanes, and Hamburg.
EMW Football and Cheerleading’s guiding principle is that every child deserves and has the absolute right to fulfill and live out their dreams on the football field and on the cheerleading mat. At EMW all of our board members, coaches, and volunteers go through extensive training and must pass a background check. While we sincerely want all our young athletes to find success in their sport, it is much more important to us that they find success in life and all of our coaches strive to teach our young athletes the life lessons of discipline, self- determination, and team work. Our football players play league games and take part in football tournaments. Our cheerleaders cheer the football teams on and compete in at least three cheerleading competitions, but what they are really doing is preparing themselves for life, making lifelong friendships, and creating memories that will treasure for the rest of their lives.
At the end of the day, EMW Football and Cheerleading along with our great partners at the Iroquois Central School District, and the towns of Elma, Marilla, and Wales have the goal of creating a love of sport in all of our young athletes and preparing them for all the challenges that life will throw at them. We are extremely confident that we will be successful in our goal because of our amazing coaches/volunteers, excellent partners, but most of all because of the outstanding athletes. In closing I feel that I speak for everyone at EMW Football and Cheerleading when I say that one of the most rewarding experiences in life is watching young children grow into fine young adults and know you played some small part in that.
